What is Orchestra?

Message from the director:

Music teaches many things: How to be responsible for your self; knowing your part, knowing how to function as an individual Orchestra member, knowing when to show up, and knowing how to be prepared. How to be responsible to the group; knowing your section, being responsible to your Ensemble, being a part of something larger than yourself. Music teaches an appreciate for the effort that goes into music; Imagine, every great musician you hear or see online or on TV or in a performance has a skill set similar to yours: They practice until they get it correct, they understand how to create. They understand a timeline, they know when to be prepared, and they know how to perform. But most of all, Music teaches you ART.

Students who participate in music have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society.
