What is Band?

Message from the director:

Hello Yerington families, I hope this message finds you well. With all of the uncertainty in this current time of COVID-19, I am hoping to offer some sense of order and positivity to you and your student. The chance to sign up for band in the new school year is coming up. On 4.2.2020. YIS sent out the electives packets. Normally I would have already had a chance to meet all of our current 4th graders and speak to YIS students about joining band next fall. In lieu of that, I would like to invite your student to sign up for what is certain to be a great beginning to student life at YIS! Now is the time to express any interest you may have. What have you got to loose?

Students who participate in music have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society.

H. Con. Res 266 United States Senate, June 2000

Students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation.
