The impact of music education on children is profound.

Music does more than just make sounds, it changes the way we think and act. The skills your child will learn in music will help them be successful on the stage, in the classroom, and for the rest of their lives.

What is Band?

Message from the director:

Parents, this coming year your child can begin playing a wind instrument in the Wy'east Middle School Band program! In the Evergreen School District students have the opportunity to join beginning band in the fifth grade at their elementary school or sixth grade at the middle school. When your student brings home an instrument for the first time, it is more than just an exciting day. It is perhaps one of the greatest opportunities in your child's life thus far! There are not many subjects taught in school where your children can have fun, learn a beautiful art form, use several parts of their brain simultaneously, and develop life skills needed to be successful beyond their school career. Please join us for this wonderful musical journey and enter the band family at Wy'east Middle School!

Students who participate in music have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society.

H. Con. Res 266 United States Senate, June 2000

Students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation.

College Entrance Examination Board College-Bound Seniors National Report
