What is Band?

Message from the director:

Mrs. Bear and I are excited about the upcoming school year. We look forward to teaching students how to play their instruments so they can be a future part of the fun and joy of performing in our high school band “The TRUE BLUE BAND”. Please contact me soon as possible (239-3759 or fqueen@nobleps.com) and I will work with counselors to be sure your schedule shows band before school starts. It is very important that students start in beginning band to learn the basic fundamentals of their instrument for future fun. If you wait until 7th or 8th grade, you will still have to start in beginning band class.

Students who participate in music have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society.

H. Con. Res 266 United States Senate, June 2000

Students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation.

College Entrance Examination Board College-Bound Seniors National Report

Schools that have music programs have significantly higher graduation rates than those without music programs (90.2 percent compared to 72.9 percent).
