The impact of music education on children is profound.

Music does more than just make sounds, it changes the way we think and act. The skills your child will learn in music will help them be successful on the stage, in the classroom, and for the rest of their lives.

What is Band?

Message from the director:

Welcome to the Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School Band! We would love to have your join our Hurricane Band family! Previous musical experience is not necessary! Most band students start with absolutely no formal training playing a musical instrument. Band classes are taught in a way that students with no previous experience can become successful, while those few students that already play will be challenged and continue to progress. The Hurricane Band is one big family! Along with receiving awards on the local, state and regional level, our students become lifelong friends through their involvement in band and their experiences in music equip them with the tools necessary to become outstanding young adults with an appreciation for the performing arts.

Students who participate in music have the lowest levels of current and lifelong use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drugs among any group in our society.

H. Con. Res 266 United States Senate, June 2000

Students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored higher in the SAT than students with no arts participation.

College Entrance Examination Board College-Bound Seniors National Report

Schools that have music programs have significantly higher graduation rates than those without music programs (90.2 percent compared to 72.9 percent).
